Turkey Week!

This week, we had fun with a mini turkey theme just in time for Thanksgiving. We incorporated Turkeys into our read alouds, writing, and even math!

First, we read two Turkey books and discussed the similarities and the differences. One major difference was how the Turkeys were treated in each book. In one book, Run Turkey, Run! the main focus was on catching a getaway turkey! In the next book, Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving, a group of children were able to save a turkey from a hungry farmer. We completed two pieces of writing based on these books. First, we learned how to write instructions for "How to Catch a Turkey". Then, we wrote about why we should "Save the Turkeys" after discussing persuasive writing. We learned that it is important to give many reasons to try to convince someone of something. To finish up the week, we learned about voicing our opinions and explaining them by writing about whether we would either save a turkey or catch a turkey.

Finally, in math, we graphed our classroom opinions and learned how to record data and use this information to come up with a final result. In our classroom, more children would catch a turkey than save one!

I want to say a huge thank-you to the children of Room 20 for a wonderful first full week together. I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and has a great Thanksgiving! See you Tuesday!
